Freelance Journey

How To Become a Freelancer – October 26 Update

Intro:
Looked through my spreadsheets for my previous submissions to channel 4 and it seems I never sent my first completed script! So have submitted that to them for this year.

Scripts Update:
Have two scripts I could submit to BBC this year. One is about vampires in the 1700s, the other about neurodivergent people in the 1960s. Let it never be said I’m not diverse in my writing!
They both need editing, so am focussing on them over the next month.

LA Productions also has a script submission window until November. Am just working on which is the best script to send them. Either The Last Witch in Swanage or my Troy script.
The Troy script is tricky, because technically it isn’t original work, even though my characters are definitely original interpretations and the way I’m telling the story is too. However, for LA they say I need to own the copyright which for Troy I don’t – only because it was written before copyright existed!

I am again looking for work and have been able to get paid sound work for October. It isn’t much but it will allow me to keep applying to roles I like until the end of November.

Things Learnt:
Apart from feeling pleased with myself for keeping track of my script submissions – so I could see I had a script ready for Channel 4 after all and didn’t have to miss the submission window, I have been driving to more work locations. As someone who only learnt to drive a few years ago, driving too far in one go is something I struggle with. However, the more I drive, the more I realise that so long as I know in advance I have somewhere to park, I’m fine with driving quite far away!
